It's entry time! by Richard Lisseter, Chair of Worcestershire Theatre Festival

Greetings fellow Theatre enthusiasts!

As one Festival season disappears another looms in the near future. This blog hopes to interest your theatre group in becoming involved and bring you up to date with how it all ended last year.

As our title suggests our Festival is open to any theatre group in Worcestershire, and we also accept entries from outside of the county.  This year it takes place at the Norbury Theatre in Droitwich on 3rd and 4th March 2018. This website gives you all the details and a taste of how it’s run.

Our aim this year is encourage groups from the large towns of Kidderminster, Redditch, Bromsgrove, Evesham and Pershore to enter the festival as currently none of these towns is represented. Primarily it’s a one-act festival but it does encourage single acts from full length plays to participate – these have been successful in the past including my own group’s production of the 2nd Act of ‘An Inspector Calls’.

Last year’s full festival at Droitwich saw Swan Youth and Like the Picture Productions go forward to the Quarter Final of the All England Festival in Birmingham.

The Semi-final at Nuneaton saw Highbury Theatre from Birmingham and Ledbury ADS.

A splendid English Final at Bridgewater in Somerset saw Tamworth Arts Community Theatre (TACT) victorious and English Champions.

This meant a trip to Belfast for them to represent England in the British Final of One Act Plays in which they were the winners!

I attended every round of the competition and can assure you that standard of theatre production was amazing and thoroughly enjoyable.

Please consider entering the Worcestershire Theatre Festival for 2018. It’s an experience you’ll enjoy and never forget - you may even win !

I look forward to seeing you in Droitwich in March.
